Peugeot 908 HY motion
Peugeot Sport has the last round of the Le Mans Series Silverstone in the UK showed a hybrid 908 HDi FAP Elektro-/V12 with combined drive. This technology HYmotion2, part of the vehicle kinetic energy when the brakes are recovered and saved. This energy allows the driver to ever get as needed, either to switch to all-electric operation (eg in the pit lane) to reduce the consumption (3 to 5%) or increase the performance in the short term (as in a curve ahead or when overtaking ).

The Peugeot “HY” technology enables a designated portion of the vehicle kinetic energy when the brakes are recovered and saved. This energy can ever get the driver as needed, either to switch to pure electric mode to increase short-term (eg in the pit lane) and thus to reduce consumption or the performance by the hybrid mechanical energy is used in addition to the internal combustion engine.
The system of the Peugeot 908 HY consists of three main components: an integrated into the transmission electric motor-generator with 60 kW (82 hp) instead of the starter, ten battery packs with a total of 600 lithium-ion cells for energy storage – six in the interior instead of the original battery and four left in the sub-floor – and a power electronics for controlling the energy flows between the batteries and the motor-generator.
Installed, the electronics in the back of the left front fender. In vehicles without hybrid technology, energy is lost by radiation to the brakes. By recovering the long-distance comfort can now be raised in two ways:
- A reduction in consumption at constant performance levels thanks to making freed of mechanical energy;
- Due to increase in performance without changing the energy consumption by the hybrid mechanical energy is used in addition to the internal combustion engine.
