A Look At The Lexus LF-LC

For those who have been following the news, it should come as no surprise that Lexus plans to unveil a hybrid sports car, the LF-LC, at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit. But that plan became official this past week with an announcement of the launch and with the release of several pictures that provide us with a great first look at the model.

When the news first broke of Toyota’s intentions to build a sporty, high-end, hybrid Lexus model, initial reviews were highly skeptical. Experts had no doubt that the company could produce a luxury hybrid that was both powerful and gas-efficient. Cost was no concern, after all, as the target buyer would not be one to care about getting discounted deals or finding free insurance quotes. Rather, the skepticism grew out of Lexus’ recent shortcomings in the area of design. In recent years, the company has struggled produce models that were sporty, “cool,” and could appeal well to a wealthy and young demographic.

Lexus has been trying to change this by introducing more eye-catching vehicles, and these early photos suggest that the company has succeeded, at least as far as the forthcoming LF-LC is concerned. The car sports Lexus’ new “L-Finesse” design. In the pictures the design looks admirably sleek and sporty – more like a traditional sports car than a hybrid, and more like a Mercedes than a Lexus. It has curvy fenders, futuristic headlights, and eye-catching metallic wheels, all of which are well-accentuated against a smooth red exterior. In a word, the design is exciting, and it will be sure to create a buzz in Detroit.

While many rumors abound, we have still heard no definitive word regarding specs on the LF-LC. It is expected, though, that the car will carry a V6 or a V8 engine. Some are predicting that the car will have specs similar to those of the Lexus LS600h, with 439BPH and a 5-liter V8, but it is impossible to determine that until more information is released. For now, let’s just enjoy the new pictures and look ahead to the North American International Auto Show. We’ll know much more about this car as soon as the automotive world descends on Detroit.
